(FIP Inc.), a pharmaceutical company founded in August 2008 and located at MaRS Discovery District in the heart of downtown Toronto, is dedicated to the rapid discovery and development of novel, safer and more effective medicines. Our novel scientific approach utilizes modern fluorine-based medicinal chemistry. The concept is to modify specific properties of validated drug candidates, yielding a rich pipeline of New Chemical Entities (NCEs). Fluorinov’s programs were selected based on their significant clinical differentiation and potential for strong intellectual property (IP) protection. We have a solid portfolio of distinct drug candidates with attractive therapeutic profiles. Our initial focus is on the development of novel therapeutics in the areas of oncology and central nervous system (CNS) disorders. Our drug candidates were extensively tested in industry standard animal models with compelling preclinical biological data that have extremely good predictability of efficacy in the human. TECHNOLOGY: A key aspect to our technology is the strategic incorporation of fluorine atoms into our drug candidates. The introduction of the fluorine atom brings about dramatic changes in the physical and chemical properties of the parent drug molecules, and sometimes results in the enhancement of pharmacokinetic (PK) properties and biological activities. The unique properties of the fluorine atom include, its small size, low polarizability, high electronegativity and its ability to form strong bonds with carbon atom. Substitution of hydrogen atoms can often result in improved thermal and metabolic stability. Improved metabolic stability is usually a desirable feature since the possibility exists that in vivo decomposition may produce toxic effects. Our novel fluorinated drug products are designed to be highly efficacious, metabolically stable and with reduced toxicities compared to the parent drug candidates.
